Machaeranthera tanacetifolia was first described by Kunth in 1832.  

It is native to much of the southwestern United States.  In Mexico, the species is found as far south as Zacatecas  (Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas).

Machaeranthera tanacetifolis is an annual which is typically found in lower to mid-elevations within the Black Range.

Its other English Common Names include Tahoka Daisy and Tanseyleaf Aster.  Scientific synonyms include Aster tanacetifolius, Machaerantehera coronopifolia, and M. parthenium.
